With the current rising inflation rates and increase in costs of living, more people are looking for value in their dollar and competitive prices, especially in daily necessities and groceries. One way to get your bang for buck is to research on which supermarkets offer the best prices and value.

Recently, it was announced that the government-issued CDC vouchers can now be used at supermarkets such as Giant outlets and Ang Mo Supermarket outlets. At least two friends told me they have never heard of the latter supermarket, so I decided to write on my experience with this supermarket chain.

History

A quick check on companies.sg states that Ang Mo Supermarket Pte Ltd was incorporated on 16 May 1996, with the registered address office at Teck Ghee Square, 407 Ang Mo Kio Ave 10, #01–751. My mum actually brought me to the Ang Mo Supermarket outlet (at the same location) when I was about 9 or 10 years old, so presumably this was the time before the supermarket was officially incorporated as a company. My guess is that this is also the very first Ang Mo Supermarket outlet in Singapore.

Based on an online list dated 30 December 2020, there are 13 Ang Mo Supermarket outlets in Singapore, with two outlets in Ang Mo Kio (including the OG Block 407 one) and surprisingly, three outlets in Punggol.

So you cannot take advantage of your credit cards here but I guess the supermarket chain tries to avoid any unnecessary costs to credit card companies.

There is also no official website or web presence of Ang Mo Supermarket, which is rather surprising in today’s digital oriented age. In fact, there are some NUS students who even did a video presentation to provide suggestions on how the supermarket chain can digitise some of their processes:
