A friend who read my article on history and growth of the once dominant Econ Minimart in Singapore said she thought that HAO Mart, a newer chain of supermarkets in Singapore, was the ‘replacement’ of Econ Minimart. HAO (好) means “good” in Chinese.

However, a quick check and research shows that this is definitely not true. HAO Mart is a chain of convenience stores and supermarkets in the country which started in 2016 under HAO Corp. HAO Corp is in the electronic manufacturing business and decided to diversify itself into the grocery retail industry. Within about seven years, HAO Mart has managed to expand to over 30 outlets under its brand name.

At the time of writing and checking their official website, HAO Mart has a total 35 outlets under its four distinct retail formats:

HAO Mart (23 outlets)
Eccellente by HAO Mart (9 outlets)
HAO megamart (1 outlet)
HAO Halal Hub (2 outlets)

A comprehensive article by The Business Times (BT) in March 2020 covered HAO Mart’s developments and progress since its inception in 2016, so you can have a read to better understand how HAO Mart expanded so quickly within a relatively short span…
