Seoul far, Soul good?
I recently went to South Korea for a week-long holiday with my wife, visiting Seoul and Busan — my first proper trip to the country, not counting a short three-day work retreat in Seoul (mainly Myeongdong where my hotel was) back in 2019.
There was lots of walking over the one week period, I averaged 15,000 steps a day for that week and the highest was about 28,000 steps in a single day. This is thanks to lots of staircases within the Seoul subway network. For comparison, it is usually difficult to even hit 10,000 steps a day back home in Singapore. Even my smartwatch told me I was being more overloaded than usual.
This article will summarise five key things I like about Korea:
- Food
Since my wife always wants to visit the top food spots when we travel, I have also become a ‘foodie’ by association. We had a few wishlist food items we wanted to try: BBQ meats (which we ate at Wangbijib Myeongdong), hotteok (a korean sweet pancake with brown sugar syrup), samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup, which we had at Tosokchon), gukbap (hot rice with soup — we had a bowl of pork gukbap in Busan (pohang…
