I must be stupid, I must be crazy, must be out of my mind.
On 22 September 2024, a video of M2M (marit2marion), a popular Norwegian female pop duo consisting of Marit Larsen and Marion Raven, surfaced on Instagram — they were singing an acoustic version of their 2000 song, “The Day You Went Away”. This is the first appearance of M2M in 22 years after they disbanded in 2002. Naturally, this attracted the interest of many M2M fans including myself, who grew up listening to their music in the late 1990s to early 2000s.
A brief history of M2M
Larsen and Raven have been childhood friends since they were five. They loved singing together and released a children’s album in their home country in 1996. What propelled the duo to popularity and stardom was their 1999 song “Don’t Say You Love Me”, which was the lead single of the film, Pokemon: The First Movie. They were signed to Atlantic Records in 1998.
I just discovered this while writing this post: M2M were named “Discovery of the Year” by the Singapore Radio Association in June 2000.
